Happy New Year, everyone! I cannot believe it is already halfway through the first month of 2018… and I absolutely cannot believe I let 2017 get away from me so quickly. I had so many good intentions, you guys! I didn’t get a chance to finish blogging about our 2017 summer vacation, and that just stinks, because it was amazing.
My oldest went off to college this fall, so we decided to move… TWICE! We want to spend more of our free time and money camping and traveling with the family and less time maintaining our home, so downsizing seemed like the best idea. Because our home sold so quickly, we had to move into a rental until the new home was finished. In all the chaos of a double move, I just didn’t have time to finish our vacation posts, but I promise I am working on them. This trip was our best ever!
As I was sitting down to write about the last half of the vacation, I realized that a lot of the little details were escaping me. We packed so much into a few weeks, and I didn’t write much down. It is taking me days to write these posts, because I keep forgetting crucial details. I knew I needed to find a better way to record our camping memories.
Enter The Camper’s Journal from Journals Unlimited. I first spied this little journal in Jennifer C.’s makeover pictures, which I featured on our Facebook page. I thought it was a genius idea, because this little journal is small enough to take along with us on our trips. We can pack it along and record all the little details we might forget a few weeks later.
Of course, we are having to go off memory to fill in last summer’s trip, but the journal prompts are super helpful, so we are having less trouble recalling the important bits. Each entry is one page—front and back—and includes a space for notes and pictures. I’m all about the pictures, because I’m a very visual person. 😊
Now, I’ve used a camping journal before, but I wasn’t thrilled with the layout. I eventually stopped using it because it didn’t fit my needs. The Camper’s Journal is totally different. There are prompts for the name and location of the campground, date of the trip, weather, campsite information, and activities in the area. There are also prompts to record personal memories of the trip, which are my favorite part.
Not only is this cute little journal helping me write the rest of our vacation posts, it is also helping me record precious memories that my kids—who are growing WAY too fast, by the way—will treasure for the rest of their lives. I’m hooked! I can’t recommend this journal highly enough.
Interested in snapping up a camper’s journal of your own? Journals Unlimited was kind enough to offer us a couple of camping journals to give away to our readers. My sweetheart of 32 yrs passed away. Each of us with plans of where we wanted to go. Across country to Yellow stone….& put it on hold 9 yrs ago when a new chapter opened as Grandparent.. We did make alot of local places in the last 5 yrs. Acadia was our big trip 4 ago & loved it. Just a wk before we decided on Nova Scotia for the summer. Sadly that did not happen. My Paul went to Heaven…. Our many nights under the stars with a camp fire, dreaming of traveling together…. They will still happen. I still camp. It would be amazing to be able to journal those travels. My Paul will always live in my heart..

I’m glad I’m not the only one who hasn’t finished blogging about our Summer 2017 trip! I was bound and determined to do it by end-of-year, but life got in the way of that too! Ah well, I’ll look forward to reading about your adventures whenever it’s finished. 🙂
I have been keeping a little journal in a little notebook that’s very similar, but of course this is more complete. Thanks for sharing!

We bought the Camper’s Journal at the start of camping season this year and absolutely love it. We purchased a used Polaroid Camera from a friend and we now take a traditional campsite photo of our entire group at every site we camp so that we have easy access to get a photo into the journal.

Good idea, Megan! My daughters have a Polaroid printer that works with their phone camera. That would be perfect for our journal! Thanks for the inspiration.
